5 Ways to Get Outside in Pleasant Hill

This Charming Small Town Offers Several Ways to Enjoy the Beautiful Climate of the Bay Area.

Bike Along the Contra Costa Canal Trail

Biking is big in Pleasant Hill. With this four-mile trail winding through Pleasant Hill and the nearby towns of Martinez and Walnut Creek, this is a perfect way to enjoy a scenic bike ride. Closed to all other vehicles and running alongside the Costa Canal, this trail is ideal for not only bikers but runners, skaters, and even horseback riders as well. As the trail connects shopping centers, schools, and local parks, locals can skip the traffic and use this trail to get around instead.

Pleasant Hill Park

Ringed by gorgeous redwood trees, Pleasant Hill Park is a lovely California recreation center. With the picnic areas and BBQ pits, the area is perfect for family and friends to spend a day outside. The park features many sports structures, including a basketball court, baseball field, a sandpit, and playgrounds for younger children. Swimmers have it good, too. The nearby Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park is complete with two public pools and several fitness and swim classes to choose from. With its array of amenities and beautiful scenery, this park remains one of the town’s most popular recreation areas.

The Art, Jazz, & Wine Festival

Once every fall, the city blocks off the main thoroughfare of Crescent Ave for a magical event. As residents enjoy wine and beer while contemplating local art, free live music floats through the festival. Organized by the city’s downtown merchants, the festival hosts take care to cultivate a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere by including a fun-filled kids’ zone. Children and their families can indulge in face painting, live theater shows, rock climbing, and more during this wonderful one-day event.

Event usually held in early October.

Lindsay Wildlife Museum

Located just outside the city, Ruth Bancroft Garden features a beautiful array of wildlife. This exquisitely arranged park boasts a delightful collection of cacti, succulents, and other desert plants from all over the globe. The nursery contains an impressive variety of Agaves, and the Visitor and Education Center offers several workshops and classes to learn more about the garden’s plant life. Keep close watch of the garden’s schedule, as each season features a spectacular blooming period.
