We are hearing so many of our clients reach out to us about What is a Sewer Lateral? It is the sewer line from the house out to the sewer line mostly in the street. It’s not the sewer underneath your house, its the sewer that your house no longer sits on top of that connects the city sewer to your hours. As it leaves it goes out to the street and located underground. Most home owners are not aware that the repair is their responsibility to take care of this.
The issue is how does that get taken care of? Every time the home is on the market to sell, as part of that transaction, will need to determine if the sewer lateral is in good condition and if not, it has to be taken care of in the transaction.
The county or the city will not allow new home ownership until there is a clearance or a certificate stating that the sewer lateral is clear. It’s important for you as a buyer to know which areas are more heavily effected with sewer lateral issues. Like lots of large trees, because trees have roots and they go into the actual sewer line and we’re talking about $1000’s of dollars that a new buyer does not want take on right away when they move into the home. Especially in the areas that makes the most sense to do so.
If the home is of a certain age, It’s our job to make sure the buyer’s are aware that could be another inspection they may need. We have the latest information when it comes to these concerns and we are happy to help in any way we can.
If you have any questions feel free to chat with us now. We’d be happy to assist in any way we can.
